Kura Boutique Hotel Review: What To REALLY Expect If You Stay

kura design villas uvita costa rica

The resort is nestled in the lush tropical forest, with views over the Pacific Ocean and the town of Uvita. There is a 15-minute drive to the main road and the largest town of Manuel Antonio is an hour’s drive away. Guests are recommended to fly into San José airport, which is a three and a half hour drive. A private driver, small flight into Quepos or helicopter transfer can be arranged. There are two Master suites that are larger than the Infinity suites and sit higher on the hill for increased privacy and unique ocean views. The suites have expansive interiors and Kura-style plunge pools on their private terraces, for the ultimate luxury.

The polished details and intuitive touches throughout Kura make it almost impossible to believe that Kura is the first hotel project (but hopefully not the last) from Martin and Alejandra. All of this explains why Kura was made part of the Cayuga Collection of sustainable resorts right off the bat. The Kura staff is also entirely local except for the chef. Most were retained after showing promise while working on the construction of the hotel. Our itineraries are there to spark ideas for how you could include a stay at Kura Design Villas as part of your trip. Treat them simply as suggestions, because every aspect of the trip we create for you will be yours to define.

Costa Rica’s Only Contemporary, Cosmopolitan Resort

Travel in Costa Rica used to mean staying in little wooden lodges and shabby-chic bungalows (not necessarily a bad thing), or giant, corporate American complexes. We believe in sustainable tourism, are ICT certified and in perfect standing with the following organizations. Kura Villas is the ideal vacation spot for honeymoons, romantic getaways, and luxurious vacations. The Junior Suite Villas are decorated with sophisticated minimalism and nestled into the forest and are ideal for bird watching. Toucans, parrots, cusingas, birds of prey, and hummingbirds are easily visible, and you will find even more with your in-room binoculars.

Junior Suites

There is also the opportunity for guests to stand-up paddleboard out at the Whale’s Tail and then snorkel with vibrant tropical species that live in the sheltered bay. A truly luxurious addition to Costa Rica's boutique hotel selection. Due to its secluded location — up a dirt track, a good 30-minute drive from the main road — this is perfect for anyone looking to escape from it all for a couple of days. Costa Rica has a long tradition of ostentatious hotel-building but today’s travelers often prefer a smaller, wiser experience. Located on the esoteric Osa Peninsula halfway up a rainforest-clad mountainside, these properties balance perfectly on that fine line between rustic and luxury.

Kurá Design Villas: Eco Luxury in Uvita, Costa Rica

Martin and Alejandra are planning to double the solar capacity and eventually sell power back to the grid. All water that comes out of any tap has been purified with UV light, eliminating the need to provide bottled drinking water. The garden and landscaping was designed by Alejandra incorporating native, low-maintenance species to reduce water use. Watch this spit of sand, which bears an uncanny likeness to a whale’s tail, appear and disappear with the shifting tides.

Though they’d planned to open a humble surf shack on the beach they immediately saw a much, much grander project unfold along a stately ridge on the site. Only 60 minutes south, but a world away from Manuel Antonio, Uvita is situated on the stunning South Pacific coast of Costa Rica’s wild Osa. Named “one of the most biologically intense regions on earth” by National Geographic, the area is one of raw, untamed beauty. Covering all seven continents, The World Your Way shows you how you can see the world with us. It features trip ideas from our specialists alongside hand-picked stays and experiences, and introduces our approach to creating meaningful travel experiences. Admire the 360° rooftop panoramas from our highest point.

Both suites have private outdoor infinity plunge pools and outdoor showers. Kura Design Villas is a stylish and exclusive boutique hotel in Uvita on Costa Rica's southern coast, where jungle-covered mountains spill onto pristine beaches.

When the sun re-emerges, don’t miss sightings of colorful birds as well as the occasional whale’s tail from the infinity pool. Kura Villas is an extraordinary eco-friendly boutique hotel snuggled in the mountains that overlook Uvita. Included in the Cayuga Collection as well as a Virtuoso Preferred partner, this internationally recognized hotel is one of the top leading sustainable resorts worldwide. The Kura provides elegant furnishings, an enticing saltwater infinity pool, spa area, restaurant and bar, outdoor lounge, plus comfortable onsite jungle trails.

From chic eateries and farmers markets to whale-watching, surfing, and snorkeling, there’s plenty to explore and experience for even the most well-traveled. You’ll find the largest concentration of national parks and nature reserves in Costa Rica, offering world-class opportunities for snorkeling, surfing, and observing extraordinary marine life. Uvita is a tropical playground for high-comfort explorers searching for new and authentic experiences — in our forested mountains down to our sprawling coastline. Only 60 minutes south of Manuel Antonio, Uvita is on the stunning South Pacific coast of Costa Rica’s wild Osa region. A boutique, adults-only hotel high in the Uvita rainforest.

Fabulous escape in a beautiful site far from town. The Rum Tasting experience was fun one afternoon. The staff was great finding toucans & shuttling us to the local waterfall. The hotel restaurant was equally impressive, serving up foodie-friendly farm-to-table fare with a dash of epicurian elegance. These days, ecotourism focuses much more on preserving local ecosystems and culture.

From there, it’s a matter of retraining your brain to plan for the true cost of clothing and being willing to invest in timeless pieces that you can wear over and over again. For our part, we are hoping to make it easier for our customers to invest in sustainable pieces with the launch of our new project The Sustain Shop on June 4th. People are able to send in their old HDH pieces for a $20 gift card (per piece) and shop gently used and one-of-a-kind samples at discounted prices. I was a one-woman show when I first launched the website, so I wasn’t able to produce more than a limited number of pieces each Monday. From my studio art background, I knew artists often did limited edition prints, so that inspired me to do some limited edition pieces.

On THE LOOKBOOK COLLAB (L)  I was really excited to get to use Coclico shoes for the summer lookbook because the lines and colorways really compliment HDH pieces. On top of the beautiful footwear, they're all made ethically and meant to last, which are both important values for us as well. She has such an incredible eye, and I am just thrilled with the results of our shoot. Why are you committed to keeping your entire business in St. Paul? Building a small business is such a huge undertaking, and it really helps to do it in a place that you feel comfortable in, a place where you have support.

I chatted with the designer and Hackwith director of operations, Erin Husted, about their newly-minted studio space, the stories behind the brand and its Makers Alongside series, and what’s next for the ambitious designer. My first big project without a pattern was my own wedding dress. I couldn’t find a dress that really felt like me, so I decided to make my own. I’d only been sewing for a few months, so it was a big undertaking, but luckily, my client was very forgiving.

A Conversation with Lisa Hackwith of Hackwith Design House

Each dress is ethically made with OEKO-TEX certified fibers and nontoxic dyes, and if you don’t see your size listed, Loud Bodies will also make a custom order just for you—free of charge! Add a pop of color or pattern to your day with Kemi Telford’s dresses. This UK-based designer uses African wax paints inspired by her upbringing in Nigeria.

With cozy essentials, seasonal colors, kids’ and extended sizing, and build-your-own sets, there’s truly something for everyone. (And when you’re done, MATE has a take-back program!) All locally made, within 15 miles of its LA office. On DRESSING UP (L) I love wearing jumpers to dressier occasions. It's such a fun way to dress up that is not a typical cocktail dress.

Deeply valuing the time and creativity of her team of Minnesotan seamstresses, Lisa created a model of releasing a limited collection of products each week. Dr. Pragati Gusmano launched Nesara just this past year when she couldn’t find any comfortable postpartum dresses of her own. Using her fond memories “of the house dresses [her] mom and nani (grandmother) wore” as a drawing board, these dresses are sewn to standard sizes and hand-blocked by artisans using organic dyes for a beautiful finish. Perfect for postpartum and nursing, but also for anyone seeking a lightweight summer smock.

Hackwith Design House

After about four months of selling out of each limited edition piece, I was able to afford a seamstress to work with me. I also found my business partner, Erin, who was able to take on the business side of the operation. Today, Hackwith Design House offers a wide collection of timeless designs and quality pieces that afford women to quite literally wear their values on their sleeves. Passionate about textiles since she was first gifted a sewing machine by her mother, she launched Hackwith Design House to produce limited edition fashion at affordable prices.

A Local’s Guide to Minneapolis with Fashion Designer Lisa Hackwith

We've grown to offer additional lines including Core Collection, Swim, Basics, and Plus. Caylon Hackwith is a photographer, videographer, and art director. He began his career in art galleries and post-production studios fabricating large scale artworks for international exhibitions. He now produces images for architects, designers, hotels, and brands, as well as maintaining his own studio practice. He is perpetually seeking for a clean, minimal aesthetic that communicates beautifully and effectively. Although, he will always have a soft spot for the wild, bucolic landscape of his native Montana.

Being surrounded by such an amazing community makes it the perfect place to start a small business. MATE the Label is clean from seed to skin, 100 percent of the time. Made sustainably in Los Angeles, the brand only uses nontoxic, natural, and organic materials like organic cotton and linen.

We have some new wide-legged jumpers coming out on June 8th that almost appear to be dresses but are actually jumpers, and I think those are perfect for a wedding or dressier event. On CONSIDERATE SHOPPING  (L) At this point, my closet is primarily Hackwith Design House. I strive to be a designer that stands behind what I make, so I make sure to love each piece I create, which results in a pretty full closet. When looking for pieces for my home, I try to find items made by people who feel the same way about their pieces.

Like Jetsetter readers, I love traveling and dreaming about future trips! This season’s collection, for example, was inspired by my packing techniques for a recent trip to Mallorca, Spain. I sought out fabrics that were breathable and would be comfortable in warm weather, and designed pieces I could envision myself wearing at the market or the beach but that I could also wear at home to dinner. Harvest & Mill makes organic clothing in a fully traceable supply chain that is ethical, sustainable, and 100% American.

You can follow Lisa on Instagram at @lisahackwith or her company at @hackwithdesign. The people here are so welcoming and supportive of the creative arts. They really go above and beyond to support their local business owners and creative entrepreneurs, which makes Minneapolis’s shops and restaurants so unique and varied.

The same goes for texture – have fun with textural plays and bring in different textures to make your eclectic home decor sing. Then, with a jolt of eclectic style, the aesthetic gets a much-needed twist that Goerzen says feels unique, innately personal, and seriously compelling. Incorporating both rough and smooth textures adds interest to an interior, especially when you choose a simple color palette. "Consider shaggy throw rugs or pillows, nubby or thick, weave fabrics on furniture, rough wooden treasures or furniture, and soft, smooth finishes on iron or other metals," says Adams. Do use caution as it can be easy to let eclectic design flow into a messy, cluttered, and overly busy room.

Why do companies often advertise UX/UI roles as one?

They serve as a middle man between the user, the development team, and the primary stakeholders in the business. Nowadays, more and more businesses are recognizing the importance of user experience and actively hiring user experience employees into their companies. A UI UX agency is a ux consulting company that is highly specialized in producing a quality user experience for a given digital product. Typically they are capable of producing the design and architecture of a marketing website, mobile user interfaces, and in some cases, B2B software.

The Design MFA program at University of California, Davis culminates with the Thesis Exhibition. Graduates are prepared for advanced-level positions and leadership roles across industries. Department of Design alumni have been hired at companies, studios, and publications such as Apple, Disney, Vanity Fair, Whole Foods, Lululemon, Pottery Barn, and Gap, Inc. University of California, Davis (UC Davis) is home to the only comprehensive academic design department in the University of California System. Part of the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, the Department of Design houses a range of resources to accommodate all majors.

For Foodies, the core features might be a menu, the ability to make online reservations, and a local branch finder. Firstly, it would be the UX designer’s role to combine desk-based and field research to get a full picture of who they are designing for. This might include reviewing what the current website has to offer, interviewing existing users to identify opportunities and pain-points, and doing competitor research to see what else is out there. Some UX designers focus on service design rather than tangible products, such as designing the overall experience of using public transport or staying in a hotel.

UX and UI go hand-in-hand, and the design of the product interface has a huge impact on the overall user experience. Today, it's about finding a strategic partner who can seamlessly integrate with your team, understand your vision, and elevate your projects. UIUX Studio is the favoured option for Fortune 500 companies, SMEs, agencies, and startups seeking access to the top 5% of designers. Now that you have a fair idea of the UI/UX job market in various countries, you’ve probably understood that upskilling and continuously refining your skills is essential to stay competitive in this dynamic environment. You can apply for multiple UI/UX courses offered by the IxDF to learn and upgrade your UI/UX design skills.

Product design is the process of conceptualizing, creating, and refining physical or digital items to meet specific user needs and deliver a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and marketable solution. In smaller companies and startups, it’s not unusual for the UX designer to wear many hats and take on the whole spectrum of tasks. The next step is to consider what these personas are trying to accomplish when using a particular product and the journey they will take.

Do you really need a UI designer to create UI?

The majority of UI/UX designers get paid time off, which they can use for sick days, vacation, or personal days. With the increasing need for seamless digital experiences in the US, the demand for UI UX specialists is also on the rise.

One of the most exciting parts about joining the field of user experience is the large number of job opportunities available. Nearly every company needs UX designers to help create their digital and physical products. While the need for UX designers continues to grow, there is currently a shortage of UX design professionals to fill those roles.

Engineering at ASU is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. UX, HCI, and Socia Computing explores areas such as interaction design, usability testing, product design, mobile applications, virtual reality systems, website design, and social media. The HCDE MS at University of Washington is an interdisciplinary program that attracts students who are interested in designing, researching, and engineering interactive technology.

According to Figma Designer Advocate Hugo Raymond, engaging UI lays the foundation for a positive overall user experience with a digital product or website. "Effective user interface design brings together usability and interactive design to build an emotive connection between users and products," he explains. Courses for the HCI/d MS at UI Bloomington are led by professionals in the field. Examples of core requirements include Introduction to HCI/d; Foundations of HCI/d; Meaning and Form in HCI/d; and Interaction Design Methods. Michigan State University (MSU) is home to the College of Communication Arts and Sciences (ComArtSci).

Beautifully matching the aesthetics of the Prometheus Design Werx SPD STS-B is its performance. I used the knife to perform a few of the different functions that I felt held true to its purpose. Regarding self-defense use, I have no doubt it will perform admirably in that function.

Working to be responsible stewards of our land and wildlife so that our children may also enjoy them. How to sharpen an axe, tying a figure 8, changing your own oil and properly recycling it, and making a pot of chili from scratch. Knowing that the “golden rule” and a handshake still count for something, and understanding that the true spirit of adventure is a state of heart and mind. This includes the Sebenza’s set of 6AL-4V titanium handles being decorated with a milled PDW Kraken Trident Logo and a gray 550 paracord lanyard.

Adventure Is Out There

The SPD STS-B is carried in the pocket with the titanium billet pocket clip, set up for right-hand tip-up carry. Riding on a titanium frame, the SPD (Special Projects Division) STS-B utilizes G-10 or carbon fiber handle scales. The G-10 version comes with two sets of interchangeable scales so that you can personalize yours based on personal preference.

Special Projects Division

Over the months that I have been using the SPD STS-B, it has proven itself to be functional and comfortable. But to be honest, I have used Prometheus Design Werx knives before, and this seems to be a hallmark. As with all of the company’s EDC products, this is a high-quality, purpose-driven knife that gets it right.

The outside frame is a six sided polygon and a hybrid shape representing the strength of your "House," and also the shared efficiency of a six sided polygon as found in nature and replicated by man. Prometheus Design Werx's inherent passion for creating our exceptional products to be used in their intended contexts and environments means that we intrinsically stay authentic and true to our narrative, consumer, and community. Every product we design and craft are ones we use ourselves everyday in the field or on the street.

This Velcro-enabled, dual-loop mounting system can also be used to secure the knife to a myriad of racks and other bags. Utilizing a distinct clip point blade made in premium böhler m390, the 3.50-inch blade has an aggressive swedge that runs the length of the clip point. The blade is held closed via a ceramic ball detent and is brought to bear on ceramic bearings in bronze cages and stainless-steel pivot. Produced in extremely limited quantities, the Prometheus Design Werx x Chris Reeve Knives SPD Edition Sebenza 31 knives are available now, with pricing set at $505 for the SPD Edition Sebenza 31 Small and $580 for the SPD Edition Sebenza 31 Large. Alongside the new Sebenza 31 variants, PDW has also restocked the small and large sizes of its PDW x CRK SPD Edition Inkosi knife — which are also priced at $505 and $580, respectively.

I then wanted to check the edge and see how it held up, so I cut up some corrugated cardboard. The edge was still sharp enough to slice up most of a large box without any issue. There were some points that it kind of tore, but I think it was more due to the box being hard to hold onto. Next, I whittled a quick try stick, performing different various reductions and notches. The clip point tip was perfect for prying out chunks of wood for finer detail work.

After testing some of its wilderness survival capabilities, I took it home for some basic utility tests. I have already been carrying it for a couple of months and used it for just about everything, and it has performed excellently. I started with wilderness survival and found a small, dried maple round, split a piece off it, and whittled the end into a wedge. Once I was able to fit my wedge into the split, I used it to finish splitting the round for kindling. Featuring an integrated titanium bolster style construction, the scales run just under two-thirds the length of the grip.

Pocket Clips

However, also like all of the company’s EDC products, they are very popular and disappear fast. Unfortunately, Prometheus Design Werx does not plan to make the SPD STS-B with the G-10 or carbon fiber anymore. Then, continuing with the fire-making theme, I took one of the pieces and carved a feather stick for tinder. The edge geometry worked really well for this, and I was able to get some very fine curls. The jimping on the handle and spine helped with retention during use, while the rounded spine kept it comfortable.

Our design process is one which involves the empirical, years of field experience, the fulfillment of a need, and discussions with real world users who find themselves in challenging (and sometimes dangerous) environments and conditions all over the world. We don't do racing stripes, garish flourishments, or superfluous details in our designs. Every part, component, and detail that goes into a design serves a purpose, and its whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Overall, the SPD STS-B was very comfortable and easy to control during this process. It is not recommended to baton a folding knife to split wood because it is hard on the pivot. So, making a wedge will preserve your knife in an emergency survival scenario.

Sporting a design that was inspired by 1980s fixed blade models, the OS3 is a compact pack and field knife that measures 8” overall. Boasting a thickness of 0.145”, the OS3’s blade is comprised of a flat-ground spear point item with an unsharpened upper swedge and a top-shelf CPM S35VN construction with a matte ceramic bead-peened finish. The OS3 also tips the scales at a svelte 3.7oz, making it ideal for everything from backpacking to survival use. Short for “California Special,” this truncated auto knife is a product of PDW’s Special Projects Division.

Prometheus Design Werx operates out of workshop with a variety of classic “analog” tools such as a Bridgeport “knee mill,” power hammer, to modern CAD, and WACOM interactive pen displays. All of which allows us to conceptualize, experiment, prototype, test, and evaluate a wide variety of pre-production objects during R&D. After each step of our product design and development process is signed off on and approved, we carefully select one of our certified manufacturing partners to produce our products for the marketplace.

Since the company’s inception in 2014, Prometheus Design Werx has delivered a wide range of tactically-inspired outdoor and EDC gear, including a generous selection of top-shelf knives. And while the San Francisco-based brand’s catalog has already included more than a dozen fixed blade models, PDW’s latest full-tang offering — the OS3 — is almost certainly its most noteworthy fixed blade to date. Our apparel designs are derived from and inspired by decades of experience in the wilderness, on land, in the sea, and in remote (and sometimes dangerous) places. We create the new modern standards with the latest in technical-performance materials, use the tried and true, and bring a very high level of carefully considered, functional details to every garment we make. If there is a simple statement that is the soul of what our mission is, it would be “Virtute Vera.” It is a classic latin motto that can be applied to how you embrace and live your life.

We design and craft our products for those who see themselves as being more than just capable. You rise to the occasion, live well, and with each challenge and adventure that comes your way, you adapt, improvise, overcome, conquer...do it all your way, and with “True Grit.”Live Wild Wise and Free. That you should know how to start a proper campfire without a match and also safely extinguish it. Being able to hit a target at 300 yds using iron sights, and knowing that a wild strawberry tastes better than anything bought in a store. Prometheus Design Werx crafts exceptional multi-purpose performance apparel, equipment, EDC tools, and accessories to outfit the self-reliant individual for uncommon adventures and challenges off and on the grid. Whether it’s firearms or blades, the State of California has some of the strictest laws in the country when it comes to carrying.

We have manufacturing partners throughout the United States, and the world to bring the best goods possible to our customers. We are obliged to meet the high quality and functional standards expected of our products and work with the best manufacturing centers domestically and abroad, to deliver on that promise. Weighing in at only 1.9oz, the CAS OTF also features a matte and satin dual-tone-finished modified spear point blade made from top-shelf Böhler M390 steel. Best of all, with a length of 1.925”, this out-the-front knife is completely legal to carry in the Golden State. Machined jimping along the outside of the handle also affords ample grip while the use of blind holes for the handle’s screws results in an ultra-clean appearance.

15 Most Comfortable Shoes for Women: Best Styles, Lightweight Picks

You just imagine how your next fancy footwear should look, and they make it for you. Of course, the process won’t be cheap at all, but if you think you can afford it, book an appointment with the shoemaker and he will give you the details. Cool Shoe Designs

I tried on 15 different styles ranging from heels to loafers to boots. While some didn't live up to the hype, I narrowed in on four styles that I would recommend. Ahead, see the cool designer shoe styles from Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Balenciaga that I think are worth the investment. While it is true that you can customize Nike shoes with pretty much every detail you want to include, there are companies where the decision on how to customize sneakers depends only and entirely on you.

I've personally sworn off of wedges in the past—that is, until I warmed up to some of the directional styles on the market in the last year. Bottega Veneta wins out for the style I've been thinking about most and I've been eager to try out this specific pair of wedge boots. Oftentimes, booties can be tricky because they might be too tight or too loose around the ankles, but these strike the perfect fit. A cool alternative to basic ankle boots, they're officially landed on the must-buy list for me. I've specifically been eyeing some of the cult designer styles and major shoe trends that have been on-the-rise this season and throughout the year.

To keep them there, you should use industrial-strength glues alike Super Glue or E6000, or pick an oversized shoe clip you can easily detach upon need. You can always decorate the two shoes in different ways, but make sure they match. It is important to observe the open-sourcing process outside of the frames of social videos and posts. There are many platforms that take opportunities a step further, including Angelist, and crowdfunding sites such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter.

The Key Pieces For A Pop Of Art

Instead of buying trendy garments season after season, I now invest in quality pieces that I can reimagine and refresh through accessories. Instead of shoes and bags as an afterthought, they are now utilized as key pieces that allow me to express myself more freely and authentically. Nike’s “Flex Experience” sneakers do exactly what their name suggests, offering a flexible fit for a full range of motion, whether you’re walking, traveling or taking a light jog.

Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Zoë Kravitz and more have all been spotted in the black and white colorways, hitting the town for a stroll and even the concert circuit. From handmade pieces to vintage treasures ready to be loved again, Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. It’s also home to a whole host of one-of-a-kind items made with love and extraordinary care.

Balenciaga's iconic knife heels—named for their sharp, pointed toes—were reimagined this season. This time around, they're finished with a sporty toggle at the back that adds a cool scrunch effect to the leather. I am seriously obsessed with the creativity this custom shoe website allows. Slip into something more comfortable with this chunky sneaker. Slide-on styles are the most casual of any already laid-back footwear category, but MM6’s possess extra attitude to match their sky-high platform. At a time when brands are backing away from logos in favor of "quiet luxury," these sneakers caught my eye because of their logo.
